Tested TVs

Tested TVs

The TVs, boxes and projectors the apps have run on, counted anonymously by the apps themselves.

The list grows as TVs finish setup. An Android / Google TV not listed here still works.

Set up in minutes

No account. Start from the device you have.

  1. Get the app

Android, Mac, Windows or Linux. Yours is picked out.

  2. Pick the TV, type the code

The app finds the TV on your Wi-Fi. The TV shows a code; type it in the app and the keys work.

  3. Want more: turn on ADB

The picture, apps, files, timers: turn on ADB debugging on the TV and choose Always allow. The app installs TV Setup, TV Home… when needed.

Android TV and Google TV. LG, Samsung, Roku: in beta.

FAQ

Which TVs work?

Android TV and Google TV (Sony, TCL, Xiaomi, Philips, operator boxes such as FPT Play Box…). LG, Samsung, Roku and VIDAA get keys, typing and apps in the phone and computer apps, but that is still beta. → Guide

Does it work with an iPhone?

Yes. There is no iPhone app, but TV Setup on the TV serves a control page: scan the QR code, type the 6-digit code, open it in Safari. → Guide

How do I put it on the TV?

With the phone or computer app: pick the TV, open Manage → Automation, press Install TV Setup on the TV. Only the TV: install Downloader from Google Play, open it and type code 2397346. → Guide

Must I be on the same Wi-Fi? And away from home?

At home, the same Wi-Fi: the app finds the TV by itself. Away from home, use Tailscale, set up with one button; no port is opened to the Internet. → Guide

Can it break my TV? Does it need root?

No root needed. Optimize TV uninstalls nothing and has an Undo button. Every device has to be approved by you on the TV's screen. → Guide

What is TV Home? Can I go back to the old home screen?

TV Home is the project's own ad-free home screen. The TV asks Keep; no answer in 30 seconds and the old launcher comes back. Or pick Use the TV's own launcher at any time. → Guide

Is it free? Any ads?

Free, no ads, no account, open source (MIT license) on GitHub.

What data does it send?

One anonymous note a day: TV brand and model, Android and app version, what worked, a random ID. Never your IP, TV name, app list or account. Switch it off in Settings and nothing is sent. → Guide

Is there a kids lock?

Yes: sleep timer, bedtime, daily app limits and PIN-locked apps. They run on the TV itself, so they work with every phone off. → Guide

Lost the home screen or something broke after Optimize?

Press ↩ Undo in the phone app, the computer app or the TV web page: every app turned off comes back. Home screen gone: on the TV, Settings → Apps → System apps → Android TV Home (or Google TV Home) → Enable. → Guide

The remote's Home button opens the old home screen?

Pick the launcher again in the Home screen card. Google TV, Sony, Xiaomi: the stock launcher is turned off so Home opens the one you chose; TV Setup watches and redoes it if a TV update turns it back on. → Guide

YouTube, Netflix or Input buttons stopped working?

Usually because the stock launcher is off. TV Setup gives these buttons their old job back (ADB must be on); odd buttons on some models are fixed from a list on the site. → Guide

Does it block ads inside YouTube?

No. It removes the home screen's ads and the maker's junk apps; the ad-blocking DNS (AdGuard…) cuts ads in some apps, but not the ads inside YouTube videos. → Guide

Why not on Google Play? Does it update itself?

The apps come straight from GitHub, with public source code. TV Setup updates itself and the TV apps; the phone and computer apps ask before updating. → Guide

Already optimized, and want to change it?

No need to start over: press Undo, choose again and run it; change the home screen any time in the Home screen card. → Guide
